Welcome

Welcome to Pediatric Associates. We are pleased you have chosen us for your health care needs.

Young BoyOur office was established in the Manhattan Medical Center in the early 1960s. It is our goal to offer the best medical services possible to our patient's. In addition to our Pediatric office, full x-ray and laboratory services are available under one roof. We provide continuing care for infants, children, adolescents and teenagers from birth through the patients nineteenth birthday. Your child will always be seen by one of our pediatricians who is board certified in the speciality of pediatrics. Our doctors and staff believe there is no greater honor than to be asked to care for your children. We will care for your children as if they were our own.

We are proud to say our office is now "High Tech" and each patient's chart is on an electronic medical record. We made the change from paper charts to paperless charts in November of 2006.

After Hours/Emergencies

One member of our group is on call each night, holidays and weekends. If you need a pediatrician after office hours please call our office number, 537-9030 and follow the instructions to page the doctor on call. In the case of a mechanical failure, we ask you to call again if you have not heard from the doctor on call with in thirty minutes.

To keep your cost down, we advise before going to the emergency room you first call the office during office hours (537-9030) or the pediatrician on call after hours (537-0930).

If your child is treated in the hospital by one of the peditricians, the physician's fee will be billed by this office, not the hospital.

Telephoning The Doctor
When calling to talk with your doctor or his/her nurse, you may be transfered to the nurse's voice mail. Please leave the nurse your name, patient's name and date of birth, phone number and a brief statement concerning your call. Many times a nurse will need to confer with the doctor before returning your call. Nurses attempt to return all calls within twenty-four hours. The doctor cannot be called to the phone when he is with a patient.
Allergy Shots
Patients receiving allergy shots do need to make appointments for these. Allergy shot appointments are scheduled during the day on week days and on Saturday mornings. We do not schedule allergy shots in the evenings or on Sundays. Because of the possibilty of reactions shots will not be given unless a doctor is in the office.

Appointments

Our office is open from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 A.M. until 5:15 P.M. on Friday, 8:00 A.M. until noon on Saturday and 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M Sundays. We are open in the evenings and on Saturday and Sunday with reduced staff so we can care for sick children. Routine physicals and chronic illnesses are seen during the daytime hours. Patients are seen by appointment. When making your appointment the receptionist will need a brief statement of the child's symptoms. If more than one child is to be seen, it is necessary to have an appointment for each, even if children are in the same family. Arriving at the office without an appointment will result in a wait to be seen as we must care for those patients who have made appointments first. We do of course see medical emergiencies when they occur.

When your child is ill, we make every effort to see him/her on the same day as you call. On busy days, it may be necessary to see patients late in the afternoon or evening.

We strive to see patients at their appointed time. We do get behind schedule at times because of emergencies or because a patient needs more time than we anticpated. Please bear with us - you may have an emergency or need extra time some day also. If you have waited twenty minutes, please check with the receptionist to be sure why you have not been called back to see the doctor.

It is best to make routine sports and day care physical appointments several weeks in advance. If a physician requests that you return for a re-check, you should make the appointment at the reception desk before leaving the office. If you cannot keep the appointment, please call to cancel as soon as possible so we may offer the time to another patient. Patients who make appointments which are not kept or canceled may not continue to receive care in our office.

H1N1 Virus

2009 H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from person-to-person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

To learn more about the H1N1 virus and its symptoms please check out our H1N1 Information Sheet
